The Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Trauma (IGOT)

The Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Trauma (IGOT) is dedicated to education and academic collaboration with medical centers around the world. Based at UCSF, IGOT sponsors research and education for orthopedic surgeons through various programs. Dr. Kim is an active member of IGOT and regular faculty at the annual IGOT/SIGN-SMART course in San Francisco. Recently, this course was taken on the road where it could have a more regional impact. Dr. Kim was a part of the team of faculty who taught orthopedic and plastic surgery techniques to African surgeons during the conference in Tanzania last June. Participants included 140 surgeons from 13 African nations. In 2016, Dr. Kim will again join the faculty for the 3rd rendition of the course in Tanzania. The teaching will focus on surgical management of orthopedic fractures and traumatic injuries.

Dr. Todd Kim“Working with and teaching orthopedic surgeons overseas has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. In most developing nations, training in surgical specialties is limited or just not available. The need for orthopedic care in these countries is immense. I feel so fortunate to have had outstanding training at UCSF. The opportunity to give back by teaching orthopedic surgeons abroad has been fun and exciting. And it also feels so important.”
